CLIMBING COURSES FOR THE COMMITTED

COURSE DATES AND BOOKING

There are no schedules for my courses, if you want to book one then contact me with a date and I’ll see if I’m around. Courses are only open to persons over the age of 18 at the time of booking.

RATIOS

I’ve taken part in several courses in the past and one thing I hate is a high student/teacher ratio. Even though cramming more people on a course lowers the individual cost you also lower the overall effect. In the past I’ve done several big wall courses where the numbers have been so high that many people only had a few minutes one to one (generally the more experienced people, as those in trouble soaked up the time). It’s for this reason that I like to keep the groups small, being generally 2:1 or 3:1. This means if two climbing partners are heading off to Greenland I can not only give 100% of my attention, but also tailor the day to their needs. This approach may cost slightly more, but experience is priceless, and paying that extra, and learning the maximum, can mean trips that cost 1000% more are a success!

TAILORING COURSES

I’ve set out a number of off the shelf courses, basically comprising of a collection of techniques focused towards a specific aim. There is nothing stopping you asking for a course that covers other topics, or differing techniques, for example I’ve done days where in the morning we did basic self rescue, and in the afternoon we covered jumaring. Every course will be tailored to your own, specific needs.

COST

The quoted cost is my fee for the day, with a day usually beginning at 10am either at the crag, or in a café close by, and then continuing until around 5pm. At this point the formal part of the course is over and participants can try out what they’ve learned as I observe - it’s not uncommon for the day to finish in the dark! The price includes specialised equipment, and hand outs.

PAYMENT

A £50 deposit is required for all course reservations at time of booking. The balance is due by the day of your climb, and will be taken before the course begins.

CANCELLATIONS

The course deposit of £50 is non-refundable if you cancel the course without giving 20 days notice, but if one of the team can’t make the course then the cost will be adjusted to a lower ratio. These courses are ‘bad weather’ proof – meaning they will take place whatever the weather.

TRANSPORT

It is your responsibility for your own transportation to and from the course, including the security of any valuables left in your car. If you plan to travel by train then I can arrange to pick you up from either Hathersage or Sheffield train stations.

ACCOMMODATION

If you wish to run two courses together I can arrange accommodation, with the price depending on what level of luxury you’re used to.

INSURANCE

Please note prices do not include any insurance.
